🇦🇷 Muchos armamos modelos como juguetes de niños, pero también todos tuvimos un momento en que dejamos de jugar para dedicarnos más seriamente al hobbie, recuerdas ese día en que dijiste esto del modelismo me gusta en serio?
Tuve una laaarga pausa en el modelismo. Volví a este hobby en mis 20, pero aún intentaba hacerlo como cuando tenía 10 años 🙂 Fue un desastre y me olvidé de esto por casi 10 años. Así que, para resumir, esa transición ocurrió hace no tanto tiempo 😉

🇺🇸 Many scale modellers have started building models as a game, using them as toys when child, but at some point in their lives they have stopped playing and have started building in a more professional way… do you remember that transition?
I had a looong break in modeling I came back to this hobby in my 20ties, but still tried to do it in a way I used to when I was 10 🙂 it went miserably and I forget about this for almost 10 years. So, long story short, that transition happened  not so long time ago 😉

🇦🇷 Que cantidad de maquetas estimas que tienes en tu “Stock” sin armar?
Estoy tratando de reducir el stock. Ahora mismo tengo como 20 kits de Wing Wings y un par de aviones de combate de Tamiya en 1:32, y 3 o 4 kits de Eduard, y eso es todo.

🇺🇸 How many kits do you have in your stash waiting to be built?
Im trying to reduce the stash, right now I have like 20 or something wing wings kits and a couple of tamiya fighters in 1:32 and 3 or 4 kits from Eduard  and pretty much that’s it 

🇦🇷 Elige un elemento del modelismo, una herramienta, accesorio, pintura, etc, que haya cambiado la forma de terminar un modelo o bien tu forma de trabajar… algo que a tu entender haya revolucionado el hobbie.
No sé si es una revolución para el hobby, pero para mí fue un GRAN cambio: los lápices acuarelables.

🇺🇸 Choose an element of scale modelling (a tool, accessory, paint, etc) that has changed your way of working or the way you finish a model… something that you believe has been revolutionary for this hobby.
I don’t know if it’s a revolution for a hobby but for me it was a BIG change – watercolour pencils.

🇦🇷 Te dedicas full-time al armado de modelos? (En caso de responder no, que otra ocupación tienes y cómo manejas tus horarios para poder armar tus modelos?)
Soy un tipo afortunado y puedo trabajar desde casa, así que durante aproximadamente un año he tenido esta regla de que todos los días dedico mi hora del almyerzo a cosas de modelismo. Usualmente tengo un plan de lo que quiero hacer en ese período de tiempo y, créanlo o no, ha aumentado la cantidad de proyectos terminados.

🇺🇸 How many hours do you dedicate to this hobby? is it a full time activity? if not, how do you manage your time?Im a lucky guy and I can work from home so for about a year I hade this rule that everyday I spend my lunch break on modeling stuff. I usually have a plan what I want to do in this time frame and believe me or not it increase the number of completed builds.

Sure thing!

🇦🇷 Recuerdas cual fue tu primer maqueta y como la conseguiste? Fue un regalo, la compraste tu mismo?
Fue un LWS Czapla en 1:72. Les compartiré la foto. Hace un tiempo compré los 4 kits que construí cuando era niño (en los 80 en Polonia no teníamos el lujo de tener un amplio catálogo de modelos, solo unos pocos de un productor local).

🇺🇸 Do you remember which was your first model and how did you get it? Did you buy it or it was a gift?
It was LWS CZapla in 1:72- I will share the picture, some time ago I bought all 4 kits that I build as a kid ( in 80ts in Poland we didn’t have a luxury of having broad catalog of models just a few from Polish producer).

🇦🇷 Tienes idea que cantidad de maquetas llevas armadas hasta el día de hoy?
No tengo idea 🙂

🇺🇸 Do you have any idea of how many models have you built so far?
I have no idea 🙂

🇦🇷 Cual sería tu rutina modelística, si la hay, o que tiempo de tu día dedicas al modelismo? tienes un horario preferido para sentarte a trabajar, como ser la noche por ejemplo?
Como dije, paso alrededor de 10 horas a la semana, pero es TODO sobre modelismo, sin distracciones, ni televisión de fondo ni nada.

🇺🇸 Tell us about you modelling routine, do you have a special time of day? at night for example?
As I said I spend around 10h in a week but it’s ALL about modelling no distractions, tv in the background or whatever.

🇦🇷 Cuál es tu etapa preferida del modelismo y porque? (compra, investigación, armado, detallado, pintura, weathering, etc).
Me encanta pintar y hacer efectos de envejecimiento, simplemente ODIO el armado.

🇺🇸 Which is your favorite process when building a model and why? (Buying, investigation, building, painting, weathering, etc).
Painting and weathering I simply HATE building.

🇦🇷 En que proyecto o maqueta  estas trabajando actualmente?
Algunos Hannover Cl II de Wingnut Wings y un P47 de Miniart.

🇺🇸 Which project or model are you working on now?
A few Hannover Cl II from Wingnut Wings and P47 from Miniart

🇦🇷 Que tanto te gusta detallar un modelo? Y qué importancia le das a fidelidad histórica cuando armas modelos para ti?
Depende, a veces cuando investigo más a fondo el tema es importante y el aspecto histórico de este hobby siempre está cerca de mi corazón, pero a veces… solo quiero construir algo directamente de la caja, solo por diversión.

🇺🇸 When building models, are the details important to you? how important is the historical fidelity of a model?
It depends, sometimes when I dig deeper in the subject it is important and the historical aspect of this hobby is always close to my heart but sometimes… I just want to build something straight from the box l just for fun

🇦🇷 Todos tenemos un avión que es nuestra debilidad… cual es tu avión favorito?
F4U Corsair porque ¡me encantan esas alas!

🇺🇸 Everybody has a favorite plane, … which one is yours and why?
F4U Corsair because I love those wings!!!

🇦🇷 Que opinión te merecen los concursos? Te gusta concursar o te gusta ir solo a mirar y charlar con otros modelistas?
Me encanta hablar sobre modelismo con otros modelistas, pero los concursos son algo diferente. Normalmente participo en uno en Polonia, el más grande y prestigioso, el Festival Internacional de Modelismo en Bytom, y realmente lo disfruto. Pero puedo ver que hay una tendencia en la comunidad de modelistas a tratar este hobby como un deporte. Simplemente creas un «jugador» y luego asistes a cada concurso y exposición que exista, intentando conseguir la mayor cantidad de medallas o diplomas posible.

🇺🇸 What do you think about scale model contests? do you like to participate or just go there to see some models and speak with friends and other modelers?
I love to talk about modelling staff with other modellers but contests are a different kind of beast. Usually Im participating only in one in Poland – the biggest and the the most prestigious which is International Modelling Festival in Bytom.

And I really enjoy it. But I can see that there is a trend in modellers community to treat this hobby as a sport. You simply create a “player” and then attending every single contest and exhibition thats exist trying to get as many medals or diploma as possible.

Lets be honest its not a sport its just a hobby in which you are gluing and painting a piece of plastic. That’s it 😉

🇦🇷 Tienes un modelista de referencia, alguien que admires, que te guste seguir sus trabajos, que te incentiva a la hora de mejorar tus modelos? Puedes recomendarnos algún trabajo en particular de ese modelista?
Soy un orgulloso estudiante de Kamil Feliks Sztarbałas.

🇺🇸 Do you have any modeller as a referent? someone you admire that motivates you to improve your models? Can you recommend us a particular work of that modeller?
Well, I’m proud to call myself a Kamil Feliks Sztarbałas student.

🇦🇷 Según tu forma de verlo,  el modelismo es un hobby o es una forma mas de arte?
Es un pasatiempo, pero puede ser un arte, si entiendes el arte como (según Wikipedia) una actividad humana y su producto resultante que implica talento creativo o imaginativo, generalmente expresivo de habilidad técnica, belleza, poder emocional o ideas conceptuales. O tal vez reformulemos esto: El modelismo puede ser arte. Pero no es una situación muy frecuente. Y no, centrarse en los detalles o contar cada remache que encuentres en el avión no te convertirá en un artista. Ese no es el camino. Uno de mis autores favoritos de dioramas, Atoir Azkue, se trata de emociones e ideas conceptuales, y al mismo tiempo, sus obras no tienen sentido desde un punto de vista histórico.

🇺🇸 From your point of view, scale modelling is just a hobby or it can be consider it as “art”?
It is a hobby but it can be an art – if you understand art as (according to Wikipedia)  human activity and its resulting product that involves creative or imaginative talent generally expressive of technical proficiency, beauty, emotional power, or conceptual ideas. Or maybe let me refreeze this: Modeling can be art. Buts its not very often situation. And no, being focused on the details or counting every single rivet you can find on the plain will not make you an artists. This is not the way. One of my favourite diorama authors Atoir Azkue is all about emotions and conceptual ideas and at the some time his works dosent make any sense from historical point of view

🇦🇷 Tienes algún otro pasatiempo además del modelísmo como la fotografía o la pintura?
Soy un lector ávido y realmente me gustan los cómics/novelas gráficas.

🇺🇸 Do you have any other hobby besides scale modelling? such as photography, painting, etc?
Im a heavy reader and Im really into the comics/graphic novels

🇦🇷 Panelado con oleos (a la antigua) o con los nuevos “washes”?
Oleos, solo uso lavados para tareas muy específicas como lavados de motor o fugas de aceite

🇺🇸 Panel lines with oils (Old school) or with new products?
Oils, Im using washes only for very specific tasks like engine washes or oil leaks

🇦🇷 Que técnica consideras que no puede faltar a la hora de darle vida a un modelo?
Pintura y envejecimiento, incluso si el envejecimiento es mínimo.

🇺🇸 What technique do your consider essential when giving life to a model?
Painting and weathering even if weathering is minimal

🇦🇷 Que crees que opina tu familia o amigos sobre esta locura que tenemos por el plástico? Te han dicho algo alguna vez?
Mi esposa revisa todos mis trabajos y generalmente elige un nuevo modelo para mí 😉 ¿Mis amigos? La mayoría de ellos son modelistas 😉

🇺🇸 How do you think your family and friends feel about this “love”  for  plastic? have they told you something about this?
My wife review all my works and she usually picks up a new subject for me;) My friends? Most of them are modellers 😉

🇦🇷 Cual es tu fabricante de maquetas preferido?
Para un tema específico, seria Wingnut Wings (¡amo los biplanos!) para aviones 1:48, y Eduard para aviones 1:32 Tamiya.

🇺🇸 Which is your favorite manufacturer?
For the specific subject it will be Wingnut Wings (biplanes I love them!) for 1:48 planes it will be Eduard for 1:32 Tamiya

🇦🇷 Que periodo, región o industria de la aviación es tu preferido a la hora de un proyecto y cuál el menos? por que?
Biplanos de la WWI porque cada avión de esta época es úrico. Aparte de eso, cualquier avión con flotadores.

🇺🇸 Which period, region or industry of the aviation is your favorite one when building a model or starting a project? and what is your least favorite? why?
WWI biplanes because every single plane from this period is uniq. Other than that – every plane on floats.

🇦🇷 Fotograbados y resinas ó scratch, tienes alguna preferencia?
No me gusta hacer scratch porque lleva mucho tiempo, hoy en dia las piezas impresas en 3D son las ganadoras.

🇺🇸 Photo Etched and resins or scratch building… do you have any preference?
I don’t like scratch building because its time consuming, those days 3d prints are the winner

🇦🇷 Te has frustrado con el armado de algún modelo? lograste terminarlo? o decidiste armar otro y esperar a que salga un molde mas nuevo?
Oh chico, tengo tantos modelos sin terminar…

🇺🇸 Have you ever felt frustrated when building a model? did you finished it or decided to build another one? did you wait for a new one to be released?
Oh boy, I have sooo many unfinished models…

🇦🇷 Hay algo que no te guste hacer cuando estas armado un modelo, como ser lijar, pintar ruedas, repanelar, etc?
Simplemente odio pegar y lijar!

🇺🇸 Is there any activity you do not enjoy when building? such as sanding, painting, painting wheels, rescribing panels lines, etc?
I simply hate gluing and sanding !!!

🇦🇷 Cómo te definirías… un contador de remaches, apegado a la realidad dimensional e histórica o un modelista con algunas licencias, más relajado, de los que piensan “si se ve como un Spit`, entonces es un Spit`!”
Soy un tipo de modelista relajado.

🇺🇸 How do you define yourself; as a rivet counter devoted to dimensional and historical reality or a relaxed modeller with some permissions? someone who thinks “if it looks like a Spit, so it is a Spit”
Im a relaxed type of modeller

🇦🇷 Últimamente el mundo del modelismo ha crecido en técnicas y productos… eres de los que se mantiene fiel a la vieja escuela, que mantienen sus técnicas anteriores o de los que están al día sobre las últimas novedades del mercado, probando siempre nuevos productos y técnicas?
No, soy súper curioso y estoy abierto a cualquier nueva técnica que exista. Siempre estoy probando nuevos productos aunque sepa que son tonterías, como una pintura especial para pincel seco.

🇺🇸 Lately the modeller’s world has changed and improved regarding techniques and products,  do you stay loyal to the old school and keep your previous techniques? or… are you informed about the latest releases and try them?
No, Im super curios and open for any new technic which exist. Im always trying a new products even I know that’s it bullshit like a special paint for dry brush

🇦🇷 Que le dirías al modelista que recién comienza, cuales serian tus palabras de aliento o consejos para el?
Puedes jugar con juguetes de plástico como lo hacías de niño!!

🇺🇸 What can you tell people that are entering to the modelling world? Any advise or words of encouragement?
You can play with plastic toys as you did as a kid!!
